Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox is asking area residents to be cautious of phone calls from people claiming connection to the IRS or U.S. Department of the Treasury, with information regarding delinquent taxes or bills. Direction is given, sometimes rudely, for the call’s recipient to phone a case manager, or send money any number of bogus ways to fix the delinquency. If you receive such a call, hang up before engaging in the conversation, and contact law enforcement immediately.
