Dow Lamar, 91, of Jamesport, passed away Dec. 2, 2014, at the Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the Jamesport Baptist Church. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Thursday at McWilliams Funeral Home in Jamesport. Burial will be at Clear Creek Cemetery near Jamesport. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jamesport Baptist Church or the Clear Creek Cemetery in care of McWilliams Funeral Home in Jamesport.

Dow was born June 23, 1923, the son of Verly and Mary Elizabeth (Fowlor) Lamar in Jamesport and attended schools in Jamesport and Oklahoma. Dow was drafted into the US Army in 1943 and proudly served his country for 2 years. He was discharged in January of 1945 with a commendation for service in the Normandy Invasion and a Purple Heart, a true hero. After returning home he began his trucking career driving a transport gas tanker in Oklahoma. He moved back to Jamesport where he owned and operated his own trucking company. Dow was united in marriage to Mary (McCoy) Wright April 13, 1961, in Chillicothe, and the couple made their home in Jamesport. Dow and Mary worked as a team-driving dump and lime trucks for 20 years. After selling the business in 1982 Dow was employed at Shuler Mausoleum for several years and later worked at the Jamesport School District where he served as custodian and drove a bus. He liked to stay busy and enjoyed working with the public. He could strike up a conversation with anyone.

Dow was a member of the Jamesport Baptist Church and enjoyed the fellowship he shared with his church family. He was an avid camper and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked taking long drives in the country just to see the sights and enjoy the beauty of nature. He would go to the Senior Center and especially enjoyed their dances that they held. Dow was a loving father and grandfather who greatly enjoyed his family and friends; he was always there to brighten their lives. Dow was a kind and gentle man whose legacy of hope, faith and hard work will live on through those who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.

Dow was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary on Jan. 10, 2004, brothers Bill, V.O. and Ovid, sister, Mary Saul.

Dow is survived by his sons, Earle Wright and wife Brenda of Jamesport, Steven Lamar and wife Becky of Trenton, daughter Sherry Ann Hopson of Mound, Texas. Grandsons, Jamison Lamar of Trenton, Dillon Wright of Jamesport, Billy Hopson of Texas, granddaughter, Lanelle Hopson of Texas and special friend, Daisy Pierce of Jamesport.
