This is a letter of concern about the safety of people in our area.

On Monday evening, Nov. 22, my daughter was delivering a birthday gift for her friend’s daughter at their home on Hwy. 13 south of Gallatin. As she drove in, she observed a sign which read “Beware of Dog.” She saw a large German Shepherd and a smaller fluffy dog approach her car. When she stepped out of her car, she was immediately attacked by a Pit Bull. She lost an area of flesh measuring about 1.5 square inches above her right inner ankle.

My understanding is that this is the sixth attack on good people who have gone to this residence. One person had to have 16-17 stitches to close her wound. My daughter’s wound must remain open.

My daughter reported the attack to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, but animal control is not one of their duties. As the owner lives out of the city limit, the Gallatin City Council cannot force action.

I wish to appeal to the owner’s logic. What if it was his wife or daughter who had been attacked or mauled by a vicious dog? Perhaps he would finally wake up to the best solution; put his attack dog to sleep, so that no one else would be hurt.

I dare say that if it had been my 2.5 year old grandson who stepped out of the car first, he could have been killed. Hopefully, reason will prevail.
