Local Seniors Attend Trulaske Leadership Academy

The College of Business at the University of Missouri in Columbia was the site Nov. 14 for the fifth annual Trulaske Leadership Academy. Attending this year’s academy were GHS seniors Macon Allen, Tannah Terry, Aubrey Nelson and Maria Bickford. All four students are very active in the Gallatin Future Business Leaders of America Chapter under the advisement of Barb Holcomb.

The event is coordinated by the students in the college’s student council. High school students must apply and then upon selection are granted a day of participation in the exposure to the academic area of study, leadership development, professional development and life on a college campus.

The leadership conference was created to support student leaders in developing their leadership skills. Each year a corporation is asked to help facilitate the event and a contemporary theme is chosen to build the conference around. It is a day-long event filled with a motivational speaker and a variety of leadership activities, with focus on encouraging corporate-student interaction in a non-interviewing atmosphere.

Up to 200 student leaders are asked to participate and are brought together with over 50 corporate representatives for the chance to share and learn. From the personal insights on leadership, to the interactive programs and social atmosphere, the leadership conference is a unique opportunity for MU’s student leaders to grow.
