November portion of firearms deer season started Nov. 15 and will continue through Nov. 25. Total deer taken statewide was 91,460, according to Daviess County Conservation Agent Alan Bradford. This is an increase of 10,014 from last year. The record was set in 2006 with 124,324.

High Counties were 1. Franklin 1839; 2. Howell 1793; 3. Callaway 1791.

Northwest region total was 10,574 deer taken. This is an increase of 1,942 from last year.

Daviess County had 702 deer; that is up 84 deer from last year.

High Counties were 1. Linn 1,174; 2. Harrison 864; and 3. Chariton 828.

MDC also reports that there were three deer-hunting incidents over the weekend with two being fatal. One fatality was in Ste. Genevieve County where a heater in a hunting blind exploded, killing the hunter. The second involved a fall from a tree stand in Crawford County. A third non-fatal incident involved a hunter in Phelps County shooting himself in the leg while loading his rifle.
