The Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education approved a proposal from Windstream to update/replace the school’s current phone system during their meeting held Oct. 16. The district will lease the new system from Windstream.

The Veterans Day Program will be in the gym on Wednesday, Nov. 12, beginning at 6 p.m. The program will be featuring the elementary honor choir and the HS band.

Superintendent Troy Clawson discussed some repairs and cleaning to be done in the gym prior to the varsity basketball season.

Elementary students who have demonstrated the character trait of ‘respect’ this month were: Kindergarten – Josie Kerns; first grade – Stephen Loxterman; second grade – Katelyn Jones; third grade – Kelsey Crabtree; fourth grade – Sieriah Eckert; fifth grade – Jaden Gannan; and sixth grade – Emma Sullivan.

Pattonsburg First Homecoming since 1982 was held on Oct. 3. There were 43 entries in the Homecoming Parade. The football game, Fireworks show (Lions Club) and dance were all very well attended.

In new business, the board approved a motion keeping the current health insurance plan options and renew with Arnold Insurance Services-Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kansas City. The rate increase for next year is 9.9%.

The board approved a resolution opposing Amendment 3 on the November ballot.

The board had a first reading of policy updates from MCE. Policies updates will be review for a second reading/approval at the November meeting.

Kathy Ray was hired as a full time custodian. Ms. Ray has been working as a part-time custodian.
