On Nov. 2, 2014, Breanna Houk, eight-year-old of Mercer, was hunting on Johnson’s Land Management in Daviess County with her mother Sheila Houk and father Rick Houk. Breanna shot her first deer with her crossbow at 15 yards. The 14 point buck ran about 50 yards then laid down. She made such a good shot the buck didn’t get up. With all the excitement they didn’t realize Breanna had shot the buck her grandpa Jim Smith called Warts due to what looked like warts from the pictures off the trail camera. Come to find out it was not warts at all. The buck was actually still in full velvet which makes the deer even more special for Breanna’s first deer.
