It’s that time of the year – Medicare Open Enrollment. Now is the time for Medicare beneficiaries to compare their current Medicare Prescription Drug (Part D) Plan to the plans available for 2015.

The open enrollment period is Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, and any changes will take place Jan. 1, 2015. There are 31 Part D plans available to Missouri residents for 2015. The plan with the lowest monthly premium is $15.70 and the least expensive plan with no deductible is $24.10 per month. Every plan has made changes and we urge all Medicare Part D beneficiaries, caretakers, and family members to make sure this comparison gets done. It doesn’t take much time but could save a substantial amount of money.

The Active Aging Resource Center has a worksheet that is easy to complete and has all the information we need to do an unbiased comparison of your current plan’s estimated costs for 2015 and other options that may save you money.

And if you are struggling to pay for your prescriptions, there are programs to help. We can help you apply for the Extra Help Program from Social Security and the Missouri Rx Plan, both of which can help with drug costs. Patient Assistance Programs are another option for people who are having trouble paying for their medications.

To get a worksheet, make an appointment, or get more information, call Deanna at 660-663-2828, or come by the Active Aging Resource Center at 109 S Main Street in Gallatin, next to the post office. The cost of living just keeps increasing and we urge you to take the time to do this comparison and try to save some money. Remember the deadline is Dec. 7, 2014.

Sincerely,

Deanna Lewis, Administrator, Active Aging Resource Center
