Daviess County Circuit Clerk Pam Howard attended Judicial Court Clerk College from Oct. 1-3 at the Lake of the Ozarks. The purpose of the college is to educate clerks on various issues. Among topics covered at the college was e-filing and electronic courts. E-filing will be implemented in the 43rd Circuit, which includes Daviess County, in May of 2015.
With e-filing, all paperwork for every case will be scanned and entered into the Judicial Information Center Court System (JIS). All files will be electronic, which will eliminate the need for paper folders and documents.
Under the new system, all filing by attorneys will be done electronically. Paper filings will still be accepted, however, from people who do not have an attorney.
Most court cases are open to the public, however, the public will be able to access public court documents only through the public terminal provided at the circuit clerk’s office; the documents will NOT be accessible through Casenet.
