Gallatin claimed a share of its first ever GRC softball title with an 11-0 victory over King City on Tuesday. Brittney Hixson and Katie Jarboe each scored twice and drove in three runs in the contest. Lacey Dixon made short work of the Lady Wildkats by striking out eight while allowing only one hit.

Kathy Walker, a senior at Gallatin High School, won first place in the high school drag races held Sept. 26 at Kansas City International Raceway. Kathy reached speeds of 169.55 miles per hour on the ¼ mile track. She is the daughter of David and Teresa Walker.

Emily Gay was crowned Queen and Adam Strein reigned as King of Gallatin R-5 Homecoming activities.

Oct. 5, 1994

Lisa Rains will be a member of the Central Methodist College Eagles athletic training program. Lisa, the daughter of Steve and Reta Rains of Gallatin, is a sophomore physical education major at CMC in Fayette.

Maxine Whitt, formerly of Gallatin, has been named “Mom of the Year” at the President’s Convocation at William Jewell College. Maxine has been a house-mother at the Sigma Nu Fraternity house for ten years.

Priscilla Warnes, pitcher, and Natalie Bird, shortstop, were named to the Grand River Conference first team. Kim Ruse, DH, was honorable mention.

Candy Walton of Gallatin has been elected as a student representative to the 1984-85 Student Senate at Trenton Junior College.

Coach Art Mueller notched his first win as a varsity coach when Gallatin defeated Princeton Friday, 34-14.

Oct. 3, 1974

Charles Belshe, senior vice president of The First National Bank of Gallatin, was elected regional vice president of Region II of the Missouri Banker’s Association.

A sizeable crowd was on hand Friday when an Army helicopter from the 190th Aviation Company at Olathe, Ks., lifted the old bell off the top of the present junior high building. The old brass bell, which weighed about 1,500 pounds and which is foundry marked in the year 1873, has been atop the old high school building for about 70 years.

Oct. 7, 1964

Mrs. Harold Appley escaped serious injury Friday afternoon when the car she was driving crashed into a moving Rock Island freight train at the crossing on Rt. K, north of highway 6, four miles east of Gallatin.

A man wanted in Texas for forgery since 1959 was apprehended at the Hisle Hotel in Gallatin by Sheriff Leland Houghton, with the aid of an observant café owner. The was man was taking a bath when the Sheriff reached his motel room. Two strange men and a woman were noted earlier by Alma Yuille in her café on the west side of the square.

Oct. 7, 1954

The Gallatin Bulldogs hope to defeat rival Hamilton after 13 years of frustration against the Hornets. Gallatin occupies the top spot in the GRC with no losses, while Hamilton has only a tie to spoil the season’s play. One of the largest Gallatin crowds to ever attend an out-of-town game is expected to be on hand for the game.

The citizens of Altamont school district went to the polls in record-breaking numbers Tuesday to give overwhelming approval to the school annexation proposal which called for the merger of the Altamont district to Gallatin. The vote was 194 to one.

Oct. 5, 1944

The coin jars in business houses are being withdrawn as it is no longer possible for the American Legion Post to purchase tobacco or cigarettes under the special purchase plan for the boys overseas.

Two sons of Mr. and Mrs. Fleet Barlow of Gallatin are in the armed forces. Pvt. Harold Barlow is with a medical detachment in New Guinea. Pvt. Chester Barlow went into the army last June and is being trained at Camp Roberts, Calif.
