Under old business the Gallatin R-5 Board again considered the purchase of band uniforms. They looked at samples and discussed this expense. After some discussion they voted to purchase new uniforms in cooperation with the Band Boosters. The cost for the district is to be approximately $10,000, with the band organization spending an additional $5,000 of their funds.
The board met in regular session on Feb. 13, and the next meeting was set for Thursday, March 13, 2014, at 6:30 p.m.
Under public comment two letters from athletic officials praising the basketball teams for good sportsmanship were read.
Superintendent Croy reported on school activities and student achievements. He also reported on office business, a meeting that he has attended, the calendar and other relevant items.
Principal Coulson followed with his high school report, which included attendance data, enrollment figures, high school calendar events, student activities and achievements, and staff professional development information. He also spoke about the new evaluation methods that are going into effect soon. In addition he updated the board on a recent legislative meeting that he and Mr. Croy attended in St. Joseph.
Principal Toni Cox then reported on elementary attendance and enrollment numbers, as well as calendar events, professional development for the elementary staff and for the administration and grade reporting.
The board adopted a new calendar for the upcoming year.
Under new business Mrs. Prewitt gave a report on the Library and Media Department.
A report on food service was tabled until April.
Non-certified employee evaluations were reviewed.
The present calendar was amended to allow for makeup days due to the snow and cold weather. The added days were Feb. 10, 17 and 24. The 24th will make up for one half day, with the remainder being a teacher workshop, as previously planned.
After a short recess, the board returned for executive session. Following the closed session the board returned to open session for discussion topics.
Mr. Croy presented a plan for the board to offer board paid life and disability insurance for the faculty and staff. After discussion this information was made into a motion and the motion passed.
Gallatin will host the spring regional MSBA meeting on May 7, 2014. This information was shared and discussed.
The board also voted to approve the attendance of six students for Vo-Tech next year. Plans for the selection and location of this attendance is still in the planning stages.
Cheryl Arnold was offered a part-time position as an ECSE aide, starting immediately.
Work agreements for non-certified employees were approved for the coming year as well.
