TARKIO, MO — Members of the Tarkio Police Department as well as the Rock Port Police Department touched up on their firearms training and protocols in dealing with certain situations using an on-site simulated shooting training. The Missouri Intergovernmental Risk Management Association conducted the training session. The simulator presents a situation using a projection screen. Participants view the video, then takes actions as if the circumstances were real. This includes talking to the subject which may or may not lead to the drawing or firing of the officer’s taser gun if the situation demands that action. The ultimate purpose of the training is not only to help lower the risk of officers getting hurt but also to keep them from handling situations incorrectly and thus facing legal ramifications.
