HARRISON COUNTY, MO — A large fish kill, mainly involving bluegill, occurred at the Harrison County Lake according to the Missouri Department of Conservation. On July 15 officials surveyed the lake shoreline and estimated that 3,500 to 5,000 fish had died. About 90% of the fish were bluegill while the rest were large mouth bass, catfish and crappies. Samples and photos were sent to the state lab. It is believed that the fish kill resulted from a naturally occurring bacteria affecting a relatively small number of fish. Overall, the fish population in the lake is not expected to be negatively affected in the long term.
