MERCER COUNTY, MO — Marshall resident Gene Pattie waived formal arraignment and pleaded not guilty to five charges in Division I of the Mercer County Circuit Court. Pattie, a former Trenton resident, made his first appearance in Division I in front of Judge Jack Peace. Pattieʼs next court appearance is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7. Pattie is charged in the May 10 shooting of former Mercer and Princeton coach/teacher Dave Niemeyer and the attempted rape of Niemeyerʼs wife, Virginia. Pattie faces two charges of armed criminal action as well as one count each of burglary, kidnapping, attempted murder, assault and attempted forcible rape in connection with the incident. He remains in custody of the Mercer County Sheriff ʼs Office in lieu of bond.
