TRENTON, MO — Junior Mullenix of Trenton will be off to Las Vegas on Friday in preparation for his participation in the 2013 World Series of Poker. The tournament gets under way on Saturday with three days of preliminary competition. Over 7,000 players are expected to compete in the No-Limit Hold ‘Em main event over the first three days. Mullenix qualified for the tournament after winning a Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament in Kansas City last fall. His $50 entry fee resulted in a $200 prize for winning the local tournament, as well as the $10,000 entry fee to play in the “big game” in Las Vegas. Mullenix has been practicing since the win last August and just last week finished ninth in a 100-player tournament in Kansas City, KS. ESPN will be there to videotape the tournament, which will then be broadcast later in the year leading up to the “November Nine” finals, which are broadcast live on ESPN. According to the official World Series of Poker website, the No-Limit Hold ‘Em portion of the tournament will continue through July 16, with the finals scheduled for Nov. 4-5. All tournament games are being played at the Rio.
