BETHANY, MO — The South Harrison R-2 Board of Education has approved plans for random drug tests of students wishing to take part in junior and senior high school sports and extracurricular activities, as well as for those students wishing to bring cars to school. Some parents have criticized the drug testing program, pointing to a violation of students’ rights. A small number of parents indicated they may pull their children from school to be home-schooled. School officials, however, say the purpose of the program is to discourage illegal drug use. Formal adoption of the program is slated for the July 11 board meeting.
