NORTHWEST MISSOURI — OATS, Inc. has announced plans to implement a new fare system to help balance the FY2014 budget, which means local riders will now be required to pay some type of fee to use the transportation service. As of Monday, July 1, the fees for rural communities in the northwest Missouri area, including Grundy and surrounding counties, will be from $1 to $5 each way, depending on trip being taken. Since 1971, OATS has provided transportation in northwest Missouri and has asked only for suggested contributions in return. Last year, OATS provided 245,619 trips to 5,415 people in the 18-county northwest Missouri area.
