ROSENDALE, MO — Flames took away an old landmark for the Rosendale community on May 13, when the old high school building caught fire. Twelve volunteer fire fighters used two pumper trucks and two smaller department vehicles to fight the flames, but upon their arrival the structure was completely engulfed in fire and dark smoke. Their efforts, however, saved the old gymnasium and kept embers from spreading to adjacent homes and structures. Mutual aid calls prompted the Savannah Volunteer Fire Department to also respond. Savannah brought one tanker truck, a pumper and eight volunteers. Additional support was provided by the Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department. The cause of the fire was undetermined; demolition may be the next decision for the property owners.
