KING CITY, MO — Officials from the City of King City took steps this week to reassure city water customers on the quality of the town’s water supply. Following several weeks of concerns expressed by citizens pertaining to what some describe as a foul taste to the city drinking water, Mayor Harley Weddle and Water Superintendent Albert Muff released a report to the media. In the document, the history of the taste and odor issues with the city water was traced to its beginnings, and the city revealed treatments that the city reservoir has undergone recently. The report assured customers that the water was both safe and in complete compliance with Department of Natural Resources (DNR) laws and regulations pertaining to municipal water sources. The source of the water taste and odor change can be traced to last year’s drought, which limited the runoff water in the city supply for many months. The result was decay of organic material in the water, a problem which the city addressed with its chemical treatment supplier. The report noted that the three recent inches of rainfall, while helpful, were not enough to fill lakes and reservoirs.
