TRENTON, MO — The Board of Public Works of Trenton Municipal Utilities has approved a 2% percent increase in electric rates. Although the electric department had a profitable month in March, it continues to fall further behind and now shows a loss of $212,658 with one month left in the year. It was noted that electric power costs have increased during the past year and the projection for next year is for costs to increase by 6%. The board agreed to the 2% across all rate tiers which will generate approximately $160,000 in new revenue on a yearly basis. The increase will be effective with the June 1 reading of meters and be reflected on the July billing.
