MARTINSVILLE, MO — Law enforcement officers, accompanied by animal rescue personnel, raided a Martinsville-area farm early on March 24, seizing more than 40 dogs that were being trained for dog fights. Pete Davis Jr., 38, the owner of the farm, and Melvin Robinson, 41, both of Kansas City, KS, were charged in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, KS, with one count of buying, selling, delivering or transporting animals for participation in an animal fighting venture. The American Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals provided a semi-trailer and another large truck that was used to collect the dogs, mainly pit bulls, during the day-long rescue operation. Training equipment was found as well as evidence that fights were staged at the farm. The federal complaint alleges that Davis and Robinson owned as many as 71 dogs in training for fights scheduled as far away as Dallas, TX. Another raid was conducted the same day in Henry County, MO.
