ROCK PORT, MO — The Second Harvest Community Food Bank aims to raise awareness of hunger during its “Food Justice Movement” now underway. As part of that effort, schools in Atchison and Holt counties competed to collect the most peanut butter for donations. Rock Port received the competition trophy with its collection of 1,088 pounds, while Tarkio took second with 675 pounds and Farifax third with 260 pounds of peanut butter. Second Harvest has set a goal of raising $400,000 during the campaign. The funds collected through the movement will help expand access to the needy through such programs as Fresh Start, Your Community Market, Backpack Buddies, Close the Gap, and Food Acquisition.
