TRENTON, MO — The Grundy County Friends of the Arts will present its next program, Roadkill Clarinet Quintet, on Sunday, March 3. The program will be held at the Wesley United Methodist Church, with the performance beginning at 3 p.m. The Roadkill Clarinet Quintet was formed in 1999 by five music educators to promote the playing of the clarinet and for their personal performance satisfaction. The five members, Russ Coleman, Jim Gai, Steve Litwiller, John Patterson and Mark Smith, include two university professors and three public school teachers who, collectively, have earned 12 degrees in music! All are active or former band directors, leading to their motto and favorite rehearsal phrase “…if we don’t get it the first time, we’ll back up and run over it again…”  Performances and clinics have been presented by the ensemble at eight universities, including the University of Central Missouri, Northwest Missouri State University, Missouri Western University, Truman State University, University of Oklahoma, Arkansas State University, Southeast Missouri State University, and the University of Central Arkansas, plus Moberly and State Fair Community Colleges. Performance tickets will be $10 at the door and includes a “thank-you for attending,” free-food reception to be held immediately after the program. Students (ages 12-18) will be admitted for $5; children (11 & under) will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult, and special needs groups will pay $5 each. NCMC students with proper ID will be admitted free. Doors will open at 2 p.m.
