STANBERRY, MO — Secretary of State Jason Kander announced the Gentry County Library in Stanberry received a Summer Library Program Grant in the amount of $6,150. The grant will be used to provide a summer reading program themed “Beneath the Surface @ Your Gentry County Library.” Partner summer schools will integrate the program theme into curriculum. Special efforts will focus on rural families who lack convenient access to the library in the summer months, as well as reaching out to children who don’t attend summer school or day cares. Participants will meet daily for six weeks of topical programming. The remaining weeks will center on a self-directed program using opinion postcard mailings and a weekly movie event. The Gentry County Library Board of Trustees met in regular session at the Gentry County Library Board meeting on Jan. 28, 2013. The board approved the last payment of the debt service levy two years ahead of schedule, saving Gentry County taxpayers $26,332 in interest payments. The $450,000 bond issue was passed by the voters of Gentry County in 2000, and was expected to take 15 years to repay. By taking advantage of lower interest rates, the library was able to pay off the bond issue two years ahead of time.
