CLINTON COUNTY, MO — Inexplicably, the Clinton County Commission has found itself at the flash point of a potential battle over where the Midwest Transmission Project’s (MTP) power lines will run through Clinton County. It’s inexplicable because technically the county can only advise and suggest with regards to the project and the only players are the MTP and affected landowners. Lathrop residents and founders of Mackintyres Church disagree, saying that the county commission needs to do all it can to preserve the integrity of what to them and others is a sacred site. Mackintyres Church is a standing memorial to Mackintyre McDill-Garton, who died in 2008 at age 9 due to an aneurism; it is also the young boy’s final resting place where he is interred. The boy’s father has organized a crusade of sorts to keep the site intact and protected from a far-reaching easement of 150 feet for the power lines. No final route for the power lines has been announced.
