TRENTON, MO — The Board of Public Works of Trenton Municipal Utilities met on Tuesday evening at Trenton City Hall and approved a roughly 20% rate increase for water customers of the utility to pay for needed improvements at the water treatment plant. The average residential customer using 3,740 gallons of water per month will see their monthly bill rise from $18.15 per month to $22.50 per month, which will result in an annual increased cost of nearly $50. The new rates will become effective on April 1 and will be reflected on customer bills during the month of May. The increased rates will generate the revenue needed to pay for improvements at the water treatment plant to reduce disinfection byproducts for which TMU has an agreement with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to be in compliance by July 2014.
