Stanberry, MO — With federal education programs facing more than an 8% budget cut next year unless Congress intervenes, the Stanberry R-2 Board of Education has adopted a resolution urging Congress to stop across-the-board cuts that would have a detrimental impact upon the school district. Cuts would impact Stanberry under a process called sequestration (defined as the cancellation of budgetary resources) that was enacted under the Budget Control Act of 2011. For Stanberry R-2, a budget cut of 8.2% in federal funding would mean fewer class opportunities through loss of special education and Title One funds. The Stanberry reading program and pre-school is funded with Title One funds.
