Solar panels on USDA building

ANDREW COUNTY, MO — The U.S. Department of Agriculture building in Savannah will soon be operating on solar power as a part of a solar rebates program sponsored by KC Power & Light. The USDA building had the solar panels installed by U.S. Solar in late November but has yet to have them activated. All residential and commercial KCP&L accounts in good standing are eligible for the rebates. Customers who use solar power receive $2 per every watt installed up to $50,000. The solar program stems from the new Missouri Renewable Electricity Standard, which requires that electric companies have a certain percentage of renewable electricity. By the end of 2013, electric utilities are required to be at 2% renewable electricity.
