PLATTE CITY, MO — Shawn Dale Griffin, 41, of Cameron pleaded guilty on Nov. 29, 2012, to second-degree murder in the November 2010 death of Angela Newsom, 36, of Chillicothe. Griffin was sentenced to a total of 25 years in prison after withdrawing his plea of not guilty. The court sentenced Griffin to 15 years on the murder charge and 10 years on the armed criminal action charge, with sentences to run consecutively. Griffin reportedly admitted to killing Newsom via gunshot wound and then burning her body inside her vehicle, which was located in a wooded area along Bob Griffin Road near Cameron. Griffon told authorities about a verbal altercation which ended after Griffon retrieved a gun from his closet and Newsom was fatally shot while she attempted to take possession of the gun. Griffin then placed her body in her car, drove it to the wooded area, and set the vehicle on fire.
