MILAN, MO — Communities Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) received a $5,000 boost by way of an ACT Missouri Mini-Grant awarded this fall. The group which organized in 2008 works to elevate community awareness on illegal substance abuse in Sullivan County. Currently about 15 volunteers are members, coming from diverse parts of the community including law enforcement, school staff, social workers, faith community and concerned parents. CADA members meet quarterly or as needed. The group purchased a breathalyzer machine in time for school prom, hosted a prescription “take-back” day, contributed to the Milan Methodist Church Family Night program, and distributed information brochures and announcements. The application for grant funding was made with cooperation with Preferred Family Healthcare; funds were possible through the Missouri Department of Mental Health, Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
