GENTRY COUNTY, MO — A man wounded by a Gentry County deputy in January, 2011, pleaded to a misdemeanor assault charge two days before his jury trial was scheduled to begin in Nodaway County. Chris Allen Moffat was originally charged with one count of Class A felony assault of a law enforcement officer and one count of Class C felony assault of a law enforcement officer after being shot during a traffic stop on Jan. 20, 2011. The officer was shot while investigating what appeared to be an accident involving a snowplow in King City. The defendant used an Alford plea, which is a type of no contest plea that does not require a defendant to admit guilt. Moffat was not required to do any further jail time as he was given credit for 48 days in jail and over a year on house arrest.
