CHILLICOTHE, MO — Local and state officials responded to an emergency call when a train struck an automobile at 5:50 p.m. on Oct. 31, 2012. The accident occurred at the intersection of LIV 230 and the Canadian Pacific Railroad track, 0.2 miles west of LIV 247, approximately 2 miles east of Chillicothe. A 2002 Peterbilt semi tractor trailer driven by Steven N. Rader, 56, of Chillicothe, was traveling east on LIV 230 and pulled into the path of a northbound 1973 Canadian Pacific Railroad train driven by Christopher Breshears, 34, of Smithville, MO. The transports collided. The semi came to rest on the northeast corner of the intersection while the train continued north for a short period down the tracks. Rader sustained moderate injuries. He was wearing a seat belt. He was taken to Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe. The semi was deemed a total loss and towed away. The train received only minor damage. The intersection is controlled by a crossbuck sign with a stop sign above it.
