ALBANY, MO — Albany Community Betterment won first place in adult and youth categories for its population group during the Missouri Community Betterment Conference held recently at Lake Ozark. The honor follows judging conducted by panelists who visited Albany during September. This year’s adult projects included work by Albany Carnegie Friends of the Library volunteers at Bookworm Bargains, the Asleep at the Wheel concert, cabin restoration, and other improvements at Camp Anove, the Gentry County Historical Society’s work on its historic caboose, and the Albany Booster Club’s Dive One 4 UR School fundraiser with Pettijohn Auto. Youth council projects were the Secret Santa and a salute to the military. Awards were presented at the 49th conference where nearly 325 volunteers and community leaders from throughout the state were in attendance.
