ATCHISON COUNTY, MO — The fiscal year concluded on Sept. 30, 2012, for the Salvation Army activities in this Northwest Missouri county. Last year’s donations of $14,347 helped 74 families to pay utility bills, to buy gasoline for jobs or doctor appointments, or to buy food. The funds provided bottled water to the three main fire departments in the county, hygiene products for school nurses, and cleaning supplies for K-6 teachers at schools throughout the county. The funds also helped school children with class fees and activity passes. This past year an Advisory Council was established for oversight. Donations for the new year are being accepted and may be mailed to Cathy Davis, P.O. Box 294, Tarkio, MO 64491. Although many people think of the Salvation Army around the Christmas season with volunteers and their collection kettles, “Need has no season.”
