JAMESPORT, MO — Over 500 quilts were sold at the annual Quilt Auction. Buyers came from 10 states and two countries with gross sales totaling more than $100,000 during the event sponsored by Jamesport Community Association. This is the 13th year of the quilt auction and each year the number of quilts grows as does the revenue raised. All quilts are hand made. Other handmade items are also sold such as quilt tops, new machine quilted, and antique quilts. There are also wall hangings, doilies and other items sold. Proceeds from the auction goes to promote tourism for the community, home to the largest Amish community in Missouri. Organizers note that the first auction, held in 1998, grossed about $9,000.
