KANSAS CITY, MO — Two firefighters from Savannah took part in a unique tribute to the New York City Fire Department firefighters who lost their lives during the 9/11 attack. Ron Steele and Casey Farrens participated in the Kansas City 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb where 343 firefighters (one for each lost firefighter) climbed 110 flights of stairs in full gear weighing upwards of 50 pounds. The event took place at the Town Pavillion building in downtown Kansas City, the third tallest building in Missouri. The two firefighters represented the Savannah Rural Fire Protection District. Steele climbed for the late Thomas O’Hagan of NYFD Battalion 4 and Farrens climbed for the late Michael Lynch NYFD Ladder 4.
