SHERIDAN, MO – The United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced plans to reduce the Sheridan Post Office’s hours from 8 to 6. In a letter from the post office to postal customers received on Sept. 10, 2012, CSDC Coordinator Kim Silance detailed the process. Four options were identified in a survey attached to the announcement to postal users: 1) keep the office open but realign weekday window service hours to actual office workload (7.75 hours reduced to 6 hours; Saturdays unaffected); 2) conduct a discontinuance study for the office and provide roadside mail delivery; 3) conduct a discontinuance study and find a suitable alternative location operated by a contractor; 4) conduct a discontinuance study and relocate PO box service to a nearby post office. The Postal Service planned to close post offices in Allendale, Denver, Worth, Gentry, and Parnell last year and earlier this year following lengthy reviews; however, Senator Claire McCaskill and others intervened and persuaded them to change their minds. Now, the Postal Service is seeking to reduce the hours at many rural post offices.
