BETHANY, MO — Bethany city officials are considering a proposal to install “smart utility meters” in local homes and businesses that can be read remotely at city hall. Recommendations from McKinstry Midwest of Kansas City estimate the cost of installing new meters to be $1.6 million which would be paid for through efficiencies in utility operations. More details and study on the proposal are anticipated at the next city council meeting slated for Sept. 20, 2012.
