DAWN, MO — Just before midnight on Sept, 5, 2012, a 911 call was placed from a Dawn resident about a shooting that had just occurred in this community located approximately 14 miles southeast of Chillicothe, Mo. An individual was air-lifted to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound as a result of the incident. Preliminary investigation reveals two adults were on a back porch of a home in Dawn, talking while children slept inside. A man who had previously been in a relationship with the female resident allegedly began driving by the woman’s home after issuing threats to the female. The driver suspect supposedly was armed with a high power rifle. Evidence shows three shots were discharged into an unoccupied pickup parked in front of the residence. Additional shots were fired by the suspect toward the two people at the back porch area of the home, at which time the male who was on the back porch reportedly fired two shots from a .22 caliber handgun with one shot striking the suspect. The suspect fled in a vehicle to relatives, where he was transported by private vehicle to Chillicothe where police authorities got involved. Charges of attempted murder, first degree aggravated assault, and unlawful use of a weapon with alcohol involved are pending.
