ROCK PORT, MO — Five retired U.S. veterans stopped by Rock Port en route to Washington, D.C., a part of the Long Road Home Project which began July 15 near Ocean Shores, WA. The 4,200-mile trek is intended to help veterans not only heal from war wounds but also to raise money to help other veterans live more fulfilling and meaningful lives. The participants have three primary goals: to give veteran cyclists the opportunity to use the healing power of long-distance cycling to overcome their own war-related injuries; to draw national attention to the plight of thousands of veterans facing considerable challenges in their return to civilian life; and to raise money for charities directly helping military veterans. The group’s goal is to raise $75,000 at the conclusion of the 90-day trek. To find out more, visit www.longroadhomeproject.com
