TRENTON, MO — The City of Trenton has received a $30,000 grant to help construct a facility to house a farmers’ market in the downtown area. The USDA will help pay for a 36’x40′ structure to be located on a city parking lot on Washington Street, behind the former American Legion Hall building. The farmer’s market is part of a larger project that includes the development of a park and memorial honoring area veterans. This is to be located at the site of the Legion Hall building once that structure is demolished and removed. A local economic development group and Chamber of Commerce will be putting together the plan and will determine ways to help pay costs. The new farmer’s market structure may also house picnics, special events such as revivals, and serve as a pedestrian shelter for the downtown area. Plans are still being finalized. Construction most likely won’t begin until summer, 2013.
