MARYVILLE, MO — The Northwest Missouri Regional Solid Waste Management District (RSWMD) will sponsor a School Recycling Challenge this school year, and NoCoMo Industries will partner on the project. The challenge will kick off November 15 on America Recycles Day and end April 22 on Earth Day. The purpose is to help provide students the opportunity to learn more about recycling and develop good habits they can also use at home. Each school will decide what materials to recycle and students will collect, sort, weigh and assemble the items for transportation including paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, plastics, glass and food cans. NoCoMo will receive all of the items to be recycled and will also give tours to schools who would like to see how the workshop processes the materials. At the conclusion of the challenge, the RSWMD will give a grand prize to the winning school determined by which recycles the most material per capita. Grant funds from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources were provided for this project in Nodaway, Atchison, Gentry, Holt and Worth counties. For more information on the challenge, contact Linda Laderoute at 660.582.5121 or [email protected].
