MAYSVILLE, MO — John Murphy of Maysville participated in the world’s largest tractor parade during the Nebraska State Fair on Aug. 25, 2012. The previous record, according to the Guinness World Record book, was 745 tractors set in Germany in 2008. Murphy was part of a parade organized by RFD-TV which attracted 1,139 tractors from 31 states. The longest distance for a participant and tractor was 1,700 miles from Harrisburg, OR. All tractors in the parade had to be at least 30 years old. Murphy drove a 1951 Allis Chalmers WD restored in honor of his brother, Robert, a Vietnam veteran who suffered from service-related illness until his death in 2008. Murphy used the tractor for many years on his farm.
