BRAYMER, MO — Approximately 2,000 acres of land in the Braymer area caught fire on Aug. 23, 2012, prompting response from 17 different fire departments. Braymer Rural Fire Department received a call about 1:30 p.m. off of Route E, two miles west of Route A. The fire started when the property owner’s father, Clay Dean Clevenger, was mowing the pasture. A bearing went out and ignited the flame. About 200 people helped fight the blaze. Five homes were evacuated as a safety precaution before the fire was brought under control at about 11 p.m.

Later, however, at about 1:30 a.m. Braymer Rural Fire returned to the scene to extinguish where the fire had rekindled.

Agencies involved in fighting the fire included the Department of Conservation, FEMA, Red Cross, and fire departments from all regions of Missouri including Chillicothe, St. Joseph and Lawson to name only a few. There were no injuries and no loss of livestock.
