CHILLICOTHE, MO — The Livingston County Jail recently experienced damage to their electrical outlets which, as a result of recent criminal action, has led to significant response for the entire building. All televisions have been removed from jail areas.
Officials say detainees would force items into the electrical outlet where detainees would light contraband (dried spinach, beans, or peas) to smoke. After warnings were issued and such activities continued, the televisions were removed. In Missouri, it is a felony to damage jail property regardless of value.
Sheriff Steve Cox reports that current jail repairs budget is exhausted. The only budget area left with money to spend is in the jail’s food budget.
The Livingston County Jail is a 48-bed facility. It currently has 43 persons in custody (Aug. 20, 2012).
