HARRISON COUNTY, MO — An officer with the Humane Society of Missouri collected animals owned by a Ridgeway couple who were sentenced to prison on July 18, 2012, in Harrison County Circuit Court. Five dogs, one cat, and two birds were transferred after being found neglected but not in particularly bad condition. The animals were placed in licensed shelters elsewhere in Missouri.
The couple, Lawrence and Donna Ratcliff, received prison sentences on drug possession and probation violation charges. It was never argued in court that the Ratcliffs failed to provide animal care. The couple could eventually reclaim their animals, although they would have to go through the adoption process like anyone else.
