The City of Gallatin was placed on a boil order after a water line break occurred late Friday evening, Aug. 3, 2012, on South Olive Street, just outside the city limits. According to City Administrator Zac Johnson, the 8-inch line feeds the rural water district and also some homes on South Prospect.

An 8-foot crack in the pipe (approximately 100 inches) was caused by a rock that punctured the pipe when the ground settled. Since the city lost a large amount of water and several houses were suspected to be completely without water, the city notified the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. DNR placed the city on a boil order.

Johnson said water samples were taken Monday morning and submitted to MoDNR for testing. Once the city has the results, the boil order will be lifted. The city expects to hear from the department Wednesday just before noon.
