Daviess County won the traveling camp trophy for the third year in a row for having the largest percentage of members attending 4-H "Go for the Green!" camp held June 4-7 and June 11-14 at Crowder State Park in Trenton.
Daviess County 4-H members attending camp included: Kase Critten, Shaunessy Eaton, Libby Endicot, Amy Gingerich, Sky Hawkinson, Jerilyn Hoover, Taylor Hoover, Jaycie Hutchinson, Kince Hutchinson, Tanner Johnson, Bailee Jones, Ami Lane, Charlee Prentice, Graydee Rains, Jarod Rains, Owen Schweizer, Declan Schwizer and Tayton Terry.
Daviess County was represented by Aubrey Nelson as a camp counselor. Becky Simpson is the 4-H Youth Development Specialist for Daviess County.
Over 200 enthusiastic 4-H campers from Northwest Missouri participated in a wide variety of traditional and Olympics related activities during the two weeks of camp. 4-H youth, ages 8-13, had an opportunity to canoe at the lake, swim at the Trenton Aquatics Center, test their Olympic Fitness level, make and try foods from other parts of the world, create picture frames, plan and direct the evening camp fire, create leather projects, shoot archery, prepared skits for the final evening of camp, target shooting with paintball guns and develop team building skills in variety of challenge games. Each camp day concluded with flag lowering, the traditional dance and a campfire. Twenty-four NW Missouri 4-H teens, ages 14-18, were selected as cabin counselors based upon a process which included application, leadership and staff recommendations.
At the close of camp each week, the youth and their families participated in a celebration of life service for former camp director, Ron Walker. The youth then performed skits and shared the camp video with those in attendance.
"I live for 4-H camp. It’s my favorite thing I get to do in the summer!" Because of this common sentiment, the University of Missouri Extension 4-H staff of NW Missouri is dedicated to helping 4-H youth build friendships and develop life skills in a safe and fun outdoor setting.
