Layne Company received a motion from the Pattonsburg Board of Aldermen to continue with the construction of the city’s new Well #7 at the proposed cost of $107,739 during the regular meeting of the board held June 13.

In other business at earlier meetings regarding the construction of the well, Micro-Comm presented a proposal for upgrades to existing equipment and radio communications for the well in the amount of $38,120.

Farmers Electric Cooperative completed the new line to the well site. FEC had to clear some trees out along Fourth Street in order to run the line at a cost of $15,000.

The board accepted a quote for three filter media from ACCO. All three filters would be done on the same day at a cost of $22,710 and the work has been completed.

A platform will need to be built for the well’s generator to set on.

Water Superintendent Eddy Meador reported that the second stage of the Hydrological study is complete and all the test have came back good on the water.

Some residents would like to be able to have chickens in town. The council approved with a limit of 30. The chickens cannot run free and coops must be kept clean. If the chickens start drawing flies or if there is an odor problem, than those issues will have to be addressed.

Panther Pride Produce LLC was granted a lease to establish, operate and maintain an entrepreneurial/life skills training garden/market on lots 155 and 156 at South Central Avenue and Oak Street. Richard Mooney-Economic Developer said the garden lot will not be used right now, but per agreement he will continue to mow the lot.

The board agreed to deposit $1,200 into the park account every year rather than transfer money into its account.

Mayor Gene Walker asked the council to start thinking about the contract with the Public Water Supply District #1 as the negotiations will start Jan. 1, 2013.

The old depot and caboose has become a concern for some residents and council members as it has become a safety hazard. The mayor will contact Historic Pattonsburg and ask a representative to come to a meeting to discuss this issue.

A dump truck was purchased from Rob Bozarth in the amount of $10,500.

Two new office desks were purchased.

FEMA requested a hydrology study on drainage ditch project. Mayor Walker said that he would take care of it.

The board discussed putting a fence down Central Avenue. The issue will be discussed next month.

Meador asked for an ATV Polaris Ranger stating that all departments would benefit from its use. The board agreed to purchase the Ranger with the cost being split four ways between water, city, streets and sewer.

Dustin Guzan was hired at $8.50 an hour for summer mowing.

Kyle Taylor was hired at $8 an hour until school begins in the fall.

Pattonsburg Rescue and Fire held a benefit for the Wynne family.

A tie vote for east ward alderman between Angela Jones and Kendra Comer during the April election was settled by a special election with a vote of Jones – 15 and Comer – 17. Kendra Comer and Robert Sweiger were sworn in to office by the city clerk.

The Pattonsburg Board of Aldermen held its meetings on April 11; May 16; and June 13. The June minutes have not yet been approved.
