Details are very sketchy, but the mower rolled over on top of him, and he was found by the side of the road, unresponsive. He was airlifted to the nearest hospital in critical condition.

Austin is at Dartmouth-Hitchcok Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He has skull fractures, facial fractures, a jaw fracture, bleeding and swelling to his brain, a broken wrist and bruising to his lungs. Austin was placed on a breathing machine and is now in a medically induced coma to help his brain and lungs heal. On June 19, he was taken off of the ventilator and he is now breathing on his own.

Alex and Sarah (Michael) Mayo flew in from Kansas City to be by his side. His mother Kristen is also there with him. Austin is the nephew of Doug and Angel Michael of Gallatin.

A cousin is keeping a website at caringbridge.org/visit/austinmayo/mystory to update friends and family on his condition.
